Abstract

We evaluated the effect of two kinds of irrigating solutions, Cytosol BSS (Optico¢ç) and Alcon BSS¢ç on the corneal endothelium-?and clinical progress after cataract surgery.
Cytosol BSS (Optico¢ç) and Alcon BSS¢ç have a very similar chemical composition and safety as an irrigating solution.
We had performed 50 cataract surgery, phacoemulsification and posterior chamber lens insertion. Cytosal BSS, (Optico¢ç) was used as an irrigating solution in 24 patients and Alcon BSS¢ç was used in 26 patients.
Corneal endothelial cell counts, central corneal thickness and some clinical parameters : uncorrected and corrected visual acuity, inflammatory cell count in anterior chamber, and intraocular pressure were evaluated at 1, 3, 7, 14 days, 1 and 2 months after operation.
. The comparison of results between Cytosol BSS (Optico¢ç) and Alcon BSS¢ç was statistically insignificant in all postoperative periods.
These results suggested that both irrigating solutions were safe and ideal and there was no significant difference between two irrigating solutions.
